Noida over the Second Weekend in March

This weekend has seen unusual weather pattern, squally winds, rain and thundershower and today we had hailstorm in Noida. It rained and then the sun shined bright soon enough. Skymet attributes the rains to Western disturbances in Jammu and Kashmir interacting with induced cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan. Rains bring down the pollution level considerably. The best part of rains is that it washes the surroundings clean!

While winters have been warm and short-lived compared to other years, on the other hand, summers seemed to be rushing in earlier than expected. February had seen slightly higher temperatures than the normal. According to Skymet Noida recorded its maximum of 30.1°C on February 24, 2016. Gurgaon with 33.1C and Delhi’s Palam Observatory clocking 32.2C along with Noida’s 30.1C were a rare occurrence of maximums going beyond 30-degrees in February.

Meanwhile, people commuting in Noida and National Capital Region (NCR) had to endure heavy traffic conditions. The mega Art of Living World Cultural Festival 2016 celebrating 35 years of its service commenced on Friday with the event website claiming participation of 35 lakh. The festival venue spread over 1000 acres adjoining Delhi-Noida Direct Flyway is a busy area for traffic. The heavy downpour, a mega event and scheduled 20,000 weddings in NCR compounded the commuters woes. The traffic was reduced to move at snail’s-pace on Friday, worst being the 4pm to 11pm slot. Delhi Police had released a Traffic Advisory for Suggested Routes.

  1. Shoes get dirty along with the trousers… but that does not beat the sheer joy of the rains… especially in NCR that has been having poor monsoons of late, enjoy it till it lasts!

  2. Hmmm….the full impact of rains is felt during monsoon. How much ever the administration may work and claim for a smooth sail during rainy season but we do end up with inundated city. And this is a ubiquitous urban problem pan-India.

  3. True, Priyanka! Friends across the country are talking about similar weather phenomenon…thanks to social media :)Enjoy the cool eweather till it lasts..i dread the heat of May-June. have a great weekend!

  4. Yesss…nothing can beat the sheer joy of rain. The cool weather is a pleasant change indeed. Otherwise, it seemed summers were forcing itself on North of India. Have a great weekend, Jitaditya!
