In a major administrative reshuffle, the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday transferred 16 IAS officers. Meerut divisional commissioner Surendra Singh was given additional charge of Greater Noida CEO office. His predecessor, Narendra Bhooshan, was made the principal secretary of the Public Works Department.

He addressed media on Wednesday after assuming the office of CEO of Greater Noida authority. Singh explained his ‘strategy’ of how he plans to change the face of the city, which is being plagued by multiple issues such as late delivery of flats, illegal construction, poor maintenance of parks, roads, sanitation among others.

“You will start seeing the change at the ground in a month because I have given clear instructions to the staff to address the issues of common man on priority,” said Singh.

“Chief minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision is clear– to work for general public with complete accountability and transparency,” said Singh.

Career Profile

A 2005 batch IAS officer, Surendra Singh (44) started his career in Meerut, where he was inducted as a trainee and hed the post of Asst Magistrate & Collector. He was posted as Joint Magistrate & Collector of Ayodhya in 2007 post confirmation. Since then he has held many administrative posts in various districts of Uttar Pradesh. He served as district magistrate & collector of various districts, viz Balarampur, Sant Ravidas Nagar (Bhadohi), Firozabad, Muzaffar Nagar, Pratapgarh, Unnao, Bareilly, Kanpur Nagar and Varanasi. In 2019 he served as the District Magistrate and district election officer in Varanasi.

Notably he was the returning officer in Varanasi during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Varanasi is a VVIP district being the parliamentary constituency of PM Narender Modi. After BJP formed the government, he served as special secretary to chief minister Yogi Adityanath from 2019 to 2021. Simultaneously, he also served in the civil aviation department, after which he became the divisional commissioner of Meerut in March 2021. He took additional charge as Greater Noida CEO on May 01, 2022.

Early Life

Surendra Singh was born to a Jat farmer family of Kasimpur (Saidpur) village of Baldeo Block in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh in 1978. He pursued Bachelors degree in Science and Masters in Geology. He bagged 21st All India Rank in the Civil Services Examination conducted by UPSC. Surendra Singh topped the Uttar Pradesh CSE candidate state list.
