THEATER | Ghalib In New Delhi
Ghalib In New Delhi is one of India’s longest running comedies. Playing since 1997, it has 450 shows to its credit and has been performed all over India and abroad. No guesses. It is Ghalib in New Delhi. The play is an extremely funny account of the 19th century poet Mirza Ghalib’s re-birth in the 21st century India, from his birth at a bus stop, staying in a servant quarter with a university student from Patna, dealing with a Punjabi land lady to becoming a page 3 personality.
The play features some of the most prominent actors of the country; including Niti Phool, Himanshu Srivastava, Manish Singh, Ayman Ansari, Dr M Sayeed Alam etc, with Dr Alam essaying the all-important role of Mirza Ghalib. It has been written and directed by Dr M Sayeed Alam, reputed for his penchant for humorous, historical and historic plays.
