The 10th edition of the Volkswagen Motorsport India’s one-make touring race car series, Volkswagen is back with the third edition of the Ameo Cup series for the year 2019.
Volkswagen Ameo Cup 2019 – Race Format
Volkswagen Ameo Cup 2019 will be hosted as part of the MMSC-FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship. The Ameo Cup races will be held at three circuits across India – MMRT in Chennai, Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore and India’s only F1 racetrack, Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida.
The format of the Volkswagen Ameo Cup will have a grid of around 20 equally prepared machines and 10 races scheduled across the year.

The Ameo Cup Car
The Ameo Cup Car is developed exclusively by Volkswagen Motorsport in Chakan, India. Powered by a 1.8-litre TSI engine, mated to a racing gearbox, the Ameo Cup racecar has been the fastest saloon race cars rolled out of the Volkswagen Motorsport India workshop. The car is truly of an international spec when it comes to performance and safety. The well-designed race car is not only easy for newbies to learn on but is also perfect for professionals to improve themselves in.
Volkswagen Ameo Cup 2019 – Driver Selection
Volkswagen Motorsport India has selected their new batch of drivers for Volkswagen Ameo Cup 2019 with 15 new drivers and 10 from the previous season. The Drivers’ Selection process was held at Indi Karting Track in Kharadi, Pune on February 09-10, 2019.
More than 1600 registrations and over 125 appearances for Drivers’ Selection programme made 2019 record setting year with the highest ever number of entries for Volkswagen Motorsport India’s one-make series.
Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India Sirish Vissa, Driver Coach Rayomand Banajee and Karting Expert Steve Hodges were the chief selectors during the two-day programme. The drivers were judged on their overall driving skills which included consistency in performance, understanding of racing lines, lap times, driving attitude and versatility. The last date for registration was February 03, 2019.
Mr. Sirish Vissa, Head of Volkswagen Motorsport India said,
“2019 is a special year for Volkswagen Motorsport in India. We are entering our 10th year and looking back, I feel a sense of pride in the journey that we have covered be it in terms of the progress we have made in infrastructure to the work we have done in raising awareness about motorsport in the country and supporting amateur and seasoned talent alike. We have had some great races last season and I look forward to another year of superb talent and racing season.”
Winner Takes it All!
The drivers would be classified in Pro and Junior category based on their experience in racing. At the end of the season, the winner of the Ameo Cup Pro category would get a sponsored seat in a higher series of racing while the winner of the Ameo Cup Junior category would get a sponsored seat in the Ameo Cup for one more year to get developed further.
Volkswagen Ameo Cup 2019 – The New Season
The new season will begin with pre-season testing and fitness camps in June followed by thrilling action on the race tracks at Kari Motor Speedway, Madras Motor Race Track and the Buddh International Circuit.
