Noida District Magistrate Ravikant Singh replaced by Hiralal Gupta

Gautam Buddh Nagar district magistrate Ravikant Singh, who had given a clean chit to suspended UP IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal, has been transferred. Officials said that Singh has been put on wait list and replaced by DM, Unnao, Hiralal Gupta on August 27, 2013.

Hialal Gupta is a 1998 batch IAS officer of UP Cadre. He originally hails from Bhadoi. He served as district magistrate of Unnao from February 09 to August 26, 2013.

Hiralal Gupta took over as the new DM and asserted that the drive against illegal mining will be intensified.

“Drive against illegal mining will be intensified and steps will be taken to check it,” Gupta said, briefing about his priorities after taking charge.

The new DM said his focus will be on maintaining law and order, transparency in administration and redressal of public grievances. Gupta also warned the district employees of disciplinary action in case they are found indulged in corruption.

What led to the transfer of Hiralal Gupta and Ravikant Singh

The transfer action of state government comes days after Singh had supported Nagpal, the 28-year-old Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Punjab cadre IAS officer, who led the crackdown on sand mining mafia in her district. She was suspended on July 27 ostensibly for ordering demolition of a wall of an under-construction mosque allegedly without following due process. in Kadalpur village in Greater Noida on July 27. Singh’s clean chit to Nagpal in his report submitted to the State Government three days after her suspension sparked off a nationwide outcry.

Singh had in his report to the UP government supported Nagpal and said that the wall was demolished by villagers themselves and no JCB machine was put in operation to demolish it.

Though no official reason has been given for Singh’s transfer, it comes after villagers at Sorkha village in Sector 115 in Noida on Tuesday protested against a demolition drive in the area and pelted stones and set ablaze police vehicle.

District magistrate Singh had on Tuesday reached the site and pacified the mob.

Other people transferred

Besides Singh, others who have been transferred include special secretary in infrastructure and industrial development department Kaushal Raj Sharma, who has been made the new DM of Muzaffarnagar replacing Surendra Singh, who has also been put on the wait list.

DM Mainpuri Vijay Karan Anand has been shifted to Unnao. Special secretary IT Vinod Kumar Pawar has been made the new DM of Mainpuri.
