Cricket fans are getting ready for an action-filled season of the inaugural Uttar Pradesh T20 League. The tournament will have six city teams fighting it out in a total of 33 thrilling matches for the Jio UP T20 trophy at the iconic Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. UP T20 is set to begin on August 30 and continue until September 16.

Players are drafted in six franchises for this exciting T20 event: Kanpur Superstars, Kashi Rudras, Gorakhpur Lions, Lucknow Falcons, Noida Super Kings, and Meerut Mavericks.

The group stage matches will be played in a double round-robin format, and the top four teams at the end of the group stage will secure their places in the playoffs. Kanpur Superstars and Noida Super Kings are all set to clash in the tourney opener.

Notable players participating in this domestic cricket league are  Nitish Rana and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for Noida Super Kings, Shivam Mavi in Kashi Rudras squad, Ankit Rajput playing for Kanpur Superstars, Priyam Garg in Lucknow Falcons team, Dhruv Jurel and Mohsin Khan for Gorakhpur Lions, and Rinku Singh along with Kartik Tyagi will be playing for Meerut Mavericks.

Opening Ceremony of First UP T20 League in Kanpur

A glittering opening ceremony took place ahead of the opening match between Kanpur Superstars and Noida Super Kings on August 30. The stage came alive with performances by some of the most dazzling celebrities, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.

Officially the league was inaugurated by BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, UP T-20 League Chairman DGP DS Chauhan, President Dr. Nidhipat Singhania by releasing balloons. During this, BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said that the UP T-20 League is an opportunity for the young players of the state to move forward. With this the youth will reach the IPL and the Indian team. At the same time, Chairman DGP DS Chauhan said that this is a new beginning for the cricket of the state, this league will expand further in the coming times.

The opening ceremony was a star-studded event with performances from actors Tiger Shroff and Ameesha Patel, exclusive act by stand-up comic & TV presenter Manish Paul. Meet Bros set the tone with electrifying performance on their chart-topping hits. Tiger Shroff charmed the audiences dancing to some of his hit numbers – Jai-Jai Shiv Shankar Mood Hai Bhayankar, Mere Naal Tu Vissal Baja, Das Bahane Kar Ke Le Gaye Dil. Ameesha Patel recited the famous dialogue of Tara Singh from Gadar 2 movie.

Inaugural Match Noida Super Kings v/s Kanpur Super Stars

The first match played between Kanpur Super Stars and Noida Super Kings on August 30. Expectations soared high as the UP Cricket talent was on display. Kings were a hot favourite playing under the leadership of a veteran IPL player Nitish Rana. While the Kanpur team had the home ground advantage playing under captain Akshdeep Nath.

Fun Fact: UFlex is title sponsor of the Noida Super Kings team who are geared up to play their 1st match against Kanpur Superstars in the opening match of the inaugural Uttar Pradesh T20 League 2023.

Noida Super Kings beat Kanpur in inaugural UPT20 match-up

The UP Premier League kicked off with an exciting clash between Kanpur Superstars and Noida Super Kings. Noida Super Kings won the inaugural match of the Uttar Pradesh T20 tonight, beating Kanpur Superstars by 16 runs.

Noida batted first and it was a competitive innings. Samarth Singh pulled them ahead with a stormy 91 off 58. But the Kanpur bowlers had their say as well with Vivek (1/22) and Jasmer Dhankar (2/30) doing their best to keep the batters on a leash.

In the end Noida posted a score of 169/6; which looked like an achievable target for Kanpur. But this is where Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/16) took control with some good assistance from Nitish Rana and Prashant Veer.

The Kanpur batters had trouble getting settled, and middle order onwards they just collapsed. In the end they could not get past 153/8.

With a crucial win in the bag, Noida Super Kings are off to a strong start in the 6-team, 33 day inaugural edition of UPT20.
