Shri Alok Tandon IAS who was on waitlist has been appointed CEO Noida and MD Noida Metro Corporation in September 2017.
Shri Alok Tandon is a mid-career professional belonging to the 1986 batch of Indian Administrative Service of the Government of India. Mr. Tandon is an Electrical Engineer by academic training.
More than 25 years of Exemplary Service
He has held various appointments during 25 years of service in IAS, namely, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Chief Development Officer, Joint Secretary and District Magistrate.
As District Magistrate of Allahabad, he supervised the setting up of a temporary township on the dry bed of river Ganges in a record time of 4 months to accommodate over one million devotees. He served as Chief Executive of a thermal power generation company having 5 generating stations and a combined revenue exceeding $ 1 billion.
Mr Tandon has served as Joint Secretary, Dept. of Disinvestment, Ministry of Finance, Government of India and as Director of United India Insurance Co. Ltd. since June 5, 2014. He was Government Director at Small Industries Development Bank of India. He served as a Government Nominee Director at ICICI Bank Ltd. from June 6, 2014 to January 16, 2017. He served as a Director of National Housing Bank from June 9, 2014 to June 10, 2016. He served as a Nominee Director of IFCI Limited from June 10, 2014 to July 6, 2016. He was a Director of Central Bank of India from November 16, 2011 to July 26, 2013. Also been a Member of Pricing Committee at Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. He received the President’s Gold Medal, awarded personally by the President of India for this achievement.
Academic pursuits
In 1984, Mr. Tandon graduated from Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
He took 2 years off from his work in the years 2005-07 for in academic pursuits in top US universities. He joined Princeton University and University of California, San Diego to learn advanced tools of economic and public policy.
Challenges Ahead
Alok Tandon has to take many important decisions as Chairman and CEO Noida. The issue of builder-buyers problems is at the top. About four lakh buyers associated with Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Authority are eyeing this. Of these, about two lakh buyers are associated with Noida only. The next biggest challenge before him is to improve the economic health of Noida and carry out various projects including Noida metro.
